Must-See Attractions
When cruising to Rotterdam, Netherlands, there are several must-see attractions that highlight the city's unique blend of modern architecture, maritime history, and vibrant culture. Here are the top five:
Erasmus Bridge (Erasmusbrug): The Erasmus Bridge is an iconic symbol of Rotterdam, known for its striking design resembling a swan. Spanning the River Nieuwe Maas, it connects the northern and southern parts of the city. Walking across the bridge offers stunning views of the skyline and is a popular activity for visitors arriving by cruise ship.
Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen): Designed by architect Piet Blom, the Cube Houses are a remarkable architectural feat that looks like a forest of tilted cubes. Each house is built on a hexagonal base and is tilted at a 45-degree angle. Visitors can explore one of the cubes at the Kijk-Kubus museum to understand this innovative design better.
SS Rotterdam: Once the largest passenger ship ever built in the Netherlands, the SS Rotterdam now serves as a hotel and museum. Visitors can take guided tours to explore its luxurious interiors and learn about its storied past, including hosting celebrities and royalty during its operational years.
Markthal: The Markthal is a modern architectural marvel that combines a market hall with residential apartments. Inside, you can find a variety of food stalls offering local delicacies and international cuisine. The stunning vaulted ceiling adorned with colorful murals makes it not just a culinary destination but also a visual feast.
Euromast Tower: For panoramic views of Rotterdam, a visit to the Euromast Tower is essential. Standing at 185 meters tall, it offers an observation deck where visitors can see the entire cityscape and even dine in its restaurant. Adventurous visitors can also try abseiling down from the tower.
These attractions offer a glimpse into Rotterdam's unique character and are perfect for making the most of your time in this vibrant city during your cruise stop.Getting Around Reykjavík
Getting Around Rotterdam

OV-chipkaart: This smart card is essential for using public transport in Rotterdam. It allows you to load credit and tap in and out of the metro, tram, and bus systems. Various ticket options are available, including day passes for unlimited travel.
Biking: Rotterdam is bike-friendly with dedicated cycling paths. Renting a bike is a popular option for exploring the city at your own pace. Electric bikes are available through services like GoBike, allowing for convenient pick-up and drop-off at various locations.
Walking: The city’s compact nature makes walking a viable option for getting around. Many attractions are within walking distance of each other, and pedestrian-friendly areas enhance the experience.
Watertaxi: For a unique perspective of the city, consider using a watertaxi. These boats navigate the waterways of Rotterdam, providing a scenic and quick way to travel without traffic delays.
